David Hynes made an immediate impact on his return to the National stage after a year out and was impressive in running a new indoor best of 22.18 to take silver in the mens 200 behind Daragh Graham of Wicklow.
Hynes made all the initial running over the first 150 showing why he is one of the best bend runners in the country but Graham just managed to hold on over the last 50m. Hynes earlier just missed out on making the final of the 60m equalling his best over the distance with a 7.02 in the semis. Davids good form so early in the year bodes well for the coming outdoor season. Adrian Jackman came within 1/100th of a second of a bronze medal in the mens 60m hurdles taking fourth place after a solid performance over the barriers. Adrian previously set a new best in the 60m in the heats running 7.45. Other Menapians in action over the weekend were Connor Wilson in his first senior nationals did more than hold his own with the Nations top sprinters and showed he will definitely be one to watch over the coming seasons. Clubmate Chris Kehoe over came a slight knee injury from last weekend to run new bests in the 60 and 200 and will join Wilson on a junior leinster team travelling to Scotland this weekend along with Aran Meyler and Craig Maher. Connor Casey made a return to the track running in the mens 400 and 200 but pulled up with a hamstring injury in the mens 200. Emma O'Gorman won a silver medal in the Ulster juvenile championships held in the same venue early on Sunday morning, storming home over the 60m distance. For most of the seniors the indoor season is drawing to a close but there are still a number of races left at provincial and national level for our juvenile athletes. Well done to David on his silver medal and to all Menapians who did their club proud on the National stage this weekend.
