Menapians athletes had a busy weekend in various different venues in Ireland and Scotland and had some fine results.
Saturday saw a large contingent of Menapian athletes represent WIT in the National Intervarsity indoor competitions. Adrian Jackman fresh from his 4th place finish last week at the National Seniors went one better this week and took bronze in the 60m hurdles event. Barry Upton won his 200m heat in ease with a 23.12 time but an unsettling cramp on the first bend in the semis halted his progress to the final. Francesca Reville made a welcome return to the track after a bad back injury and qualified for the final in second spot in her heat but pulled out of the final as a precaution. Ross O'Loughlin qualified for the 400m semi's and just missed out on a place in the final running an indoor best of 53.7. Damian Walsh took 6th place in the combined events also.

Sunday saw a large contingent of Menapians take part in the My Sports 10k in Enniscorthey. First home for the men was Jerry MacGabhan 42.16, Dermot Foley in 42.3 min followed closely by Padraig Murphy in 42,5 and Stephen Conway in 50.35. Lorraine McMahon was first home for the ladies in a great time of 49mins just ahead of Lucy Grannell in 53 with Orla, Helen, Fiona, Barbara and Edwina in close pursuit. Well done to all these athletes who are putting in marvellous effort in the gym, on the road and track.

Four of our talented junior sprinters travelled to Glasgow on Sunday as part of a Leinster team competing in the Scottish National u17 and u20 championships. Connor Wilson took bronze in the 200m with a speedy time of 24.25 and also ran a personal best in the final of the 60m with 7.46. Aaran Meyler and Craig Maher both hit 7.5 in the heats of the 60m but unfortunately Craig hurt his knee in the process and was unable to compete further for the rest of the day. Meyler went on to win his heat of the 200 in 24.14 but also pulled out of the semis as a precaution. This was a hectic day for all these athletes as there were heats, semis and finals in both sprint events. Chris Burke brought his 200m personal best down another notch to 24.5 also and is showing huge improvements since starting his winter training back in september.

Well done to all Menapians this weekend and check out www.menapiansac.com for more info on upcoming races etc.
