Mr. Oil Juvenile County Championships Day 3
Sunday the 15th of May saw the third day of the 2022 Mr. Oil Juvenile County Championships. With a large crowd gathering from 10am to participate and support the athletes, it was certain to be a great day for clubs across the county. As always, Menapian’s AC was represented in great numbers with 17 athletes turning out across the various age groups.
Cuan Monaghan, Oisín Moran and Chloe Carroll performed very well in the under 9s age group with Cuan qualifying for the semi final in his 60m sprint. Oisín and Chloe also did very well in this event and all three participated in the turbo javelin and middle distance which was 300
metres for under 9s. A great effort by our three youngest competing athletes, well done Cuan, Oisín and Chloe.
Our sole athlete in Under 10s this week was Callum Redmond who qualified for the final in his 60m sprint. Well done Callum.
We had four athletes competing in under 11s. Training pals Nico Losak, Elijah Donegan and Max Gilhooley took part in the 60m sprint, high jump and turbo javelin with Max making the sprint semi final. Kelly Cousins also competed in the sprint. Great performances by all, well done.
Rory Henderson and Lily Siggins represented the club in Under 13s. Lily did very well to make the finals in the 60m hurdles and just missed out on a medal coming 4th in high jump. Lily also
competed in the sprint and javelin events. Meanwhile Rory took a silver medal in the 60m hurdles and bronze in high jump as well as making the final in the 80m sprint.
Menapians five under 14s athletes competed in an incredible 16 events between them. Josh Nolan qualified for the final in the 75m hurdles, Josh also took part in long jump and the sprint.
Orla Dolan took Silver in the 75m hurdles while club mate Meabh McCormack took Bronze in the same event. Orla and Meabh also did long jump, 80m sprint and 200m sprint together.
Lorcan Carroll participated in the 80m sprint and 75m hurdles. And Elijah Page-Redmond took good medals in Hurdles, Long Jump and the 200m sprint.
Abigail Quinn competed admirably in the hurdles despite an injury she incurred during the race which brought a premature end to her participation for the day. We wish Abigail a speedy recovery.
In under 16s, Lucas Page-Redmond took a gold medal in the 200m sprint and silver for high jump.
Well done to all our athletes for competing again today. Thanks also to our officials Padraig, Helen, Siobhan and Catherine, and also to the club's coaches and helpers in attendance on the day: Ellen, Liam, Sinead, Tracey, Louise & Tadhg. Well done to the County Board for running another great event.
