Distilleries Marathon Scotland / Dublin City Marathon
Over the weekend Helen ran a marathon:
This was my sister's local trail marathon in Scotland it links many of the local distillerys and definitely felt like the next logical race to sign up for, I ran Dingle 2 years ago and have got more into trail running since then.
I was a bit worried that I hadn't followed the most structured plan but registration included a little whiskey tasting and that set the nerves right.
I ran this with my fiance, we signed up before we got engaged and felt like a little celebration. It was perfect running day clear but not too warm and soon enough we were ticking off the kilometers, passing castles, villages and many distillerys. My sister was the best supporter managing to catch us at nearly every road crossing to cheer us on. 6k before the end my foot started hurting so that slowed me down and I didn't quite make the time I had hoped, but was really happy to have done a trail marathon.
A really fun one and not too hilly! And lots of refreshments at the finish line
Dublin City Marathon 2026
The National Marathon championship took place in Dublin City as some of our members hit the N11 to run it on Sunday morning.
26.2 miles or 42.19km both take the same effort, same training and same sacrifices to complete, same few screws loose !
After the storms of Saturday the weather God's looked more favourably on Sunday as our crew joined approximately 20,000 others in the city centre start area.
Brian was 'fresh' from last week's Amsterdam Marathon, Dermot is not sure if this is his last, Shane was chomping at the bit for his second, Tony is rumoured to have slept in his race kit but they all hit the start line ready for the challenge. Tony grabbed himself a PB as he edges closer to the 3 hour mark.
Congratulations to each of you, the mental and physical strength required to run the distance is a challenge in itself.
