Kilmore Cross Country league / St Ibars 6k / Amsterdam Marathon

Kilmore Cross Country League

Well done to our three members who ran in the Wednesday evening edition of the Kilmore Cross Country league. Moved from the original Thursday slot due to a clash with the fireworks to mark the opening of Wexford Opera Festival.

Kirsty Hynds ran in the women's race taking 1st position while in the men's race Conor Casey and Pat Gallagher ran.

Congratulations to the three of you and thanks to Kilmore Athletics Club for organising.

St Ibars/Shels 6k

This year a very special young girl was remembered as part of the annual fundraising event, Grace who sadly passed away was on everyone's mind and it was fantastic to see the community come together to show their support many wearing Grace's favourite colour on a ribbon.

The weather was cool to begin with leaving many second guessing as to the best outfit to run but it so warmed up as the race began at 10am.

The 6k loop is a testing route with a few hills to challenge everyone.

Well done to everyone involved in organising the event and the refreshments afterwards for 400 hungry finishers.

Thanks to Ollie and Tony for the photos.

Amsterdam Marathon

On Sunday, Brian Smyth set his sights on Amsterdam Marathon. Starting in the shadows of the Olympic Stadium, the route took in the sights of the city including running through the Rijksmuseum with a live band playing, the Vondelpark and 12k along the banks of the Amstel river. A fast flat course with over 30,000 participating meant for a great experience. Superb support all along the course added to the event. Going through half way at 1:41, set him up for a good time. Steady pacing saw him ease through the pack and the second half in 1:37, a rare negative split achievement. He finished in a time of 3:18:23, knocking over 8 minutes off his PB. Great achievement showing all the hard training block over the Summer has paid off.
